IMHO, the best of Vinnie happened between the Tubes and the Dead. He toured with Todd Rundgren from 1982 until he joined the boys. His additions to Todd's lineup was significant. From Nearly Human up through the Up Against It lineup was some of the most exciting music of Todd's long and storied career.

OK, so once again, I'm biased.

Vinnie, as I've said before in this forum, had some really tough shoes to fill. There are a lot of Brent detractors, but he really did come into his own, and make the keys his domain within the Dead. I think, that along those lines, Vinnie was starting to make a greater impact, and would have shown his true colors if having been given another year.

I think that Vinnie's tale is a very sad one.

Gotta go to this band to find his best work - and for which he will be remembered.

That brought back some happy memories. They could back up their piss-takes of L.A. life and the bloated excesses of the rock world with some excellent musicianship. Always a joy to see.

I haven't checked out much of the later shows, but I think other contributors have suggested that the best of Vince can be found in the slower, quieter songs.

Oh my god- the girl in the first attachment is HOT.

As far as Vince goes- I think it was about a half and half split between stuff that makes you want to wince (get it?) and stuff that was great. Some of his piano solos (think Promised Land, Rooster, JBG) were real highlights, and sometimes he could make or break a later day Playin. Other times, his sounds were too cheesy and too loud.

I think the guy gets way too much criticism for his involvement in the GD, and being that he's dead, it would be really bad luck to trash him now.
